June’s Garden

June garden

Crossing out #2 on the list, this garden is now in full swing. Just about everything growing out there is pictured above, but  I can’t believe I haven’t included the zucchinis and squashes. Really. They’ve reached such an absurd level of abundance that, well, perhaps for me it’s enough just seeing them pile up in the kitchen.

I tend to appreciate what little I have as opposed to how much. For your consideration, the smattering of ripe ‘Stupice’ tomatoes and the variety of tomatoes yet to come:

Alis has some tender shoots and blooms growing over at her dad’s house, just a few miles from where we live. Siri doesn’t mess around,  Denise has a beautiful greens assortment (of which I’m envious, ever since the chickens mowed all of ours (I’m learning what to keep covered)! Also, she may be on a plane to Melbourne right now, but I happen to know that Cyndi has been getting her hands dirty, too.

What’s growing in your garden right now?

  1. Oh, beautiful! We aren’t quite that far along yet here in WI, but I can’t wait for July/August for our tomatoes. I’m jealous that you can have peas growing at the same time as tall corn! 😉 I love that you have so many trees, and so much space. Ahhh, lovely

  2. We are very, very fortunate to have the space we have! But the more I talk to people, there more ideas I get for gardening on a smaller scale. One lady who came to buy chickens last week talked a storm about her upside-down tomato garden! I’ve never tried that, but that idea is in our permaculture books, among others.

And yes, peas! I could make a list of things I will need to grow more of next year; sugar snap peas are among them (as well as corn). The kids eat them right off the bush; and the chickens nestle in the rest–another set of outtakes alltogether! They aren’t the most considerate animals, but who can be when it’s so hot outside that the only place to cool off is in the dark, shaded earth under the bean bushes? 😛
